Pembroke – Founder’s Hall

DA+UD along with an MEP Engineering firm was asked to do an environmental assessment of the historic Founders Hall at The Pembroke Hill School. During our analysis which included energy modeling and user surveys, the design team determined that the school would gain the greatest energy savings by replacing all of the windows, the existing steam boiler, and all window air conditioning units with a Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) system. We carefully studied this historic structure to find a method of running new utilities along with placement of the VRF units as to not detract from the existing structure and aesthetic. An upgraded electrical service will be required. We have also recommended to replace many of the existing electrical fixtures with more efficient LED fixtures as well as to improve overall lighting throughout the building. A new ADA accessible entrance and restroom were also designed to fit within the existing building and respect the structure's historic aesthetic.
