Seymour Plaza
This collaboration between DA+UD and artist Matt Dehaemers proposed to reāenvision and revitalize an existing public plaza on the campus of Wayne State College in Nebraska using rammed earth, stone and steel. Dr. Lyle Seymour, whom the plaza was named after, had a long and rich history beginning as a student and ending as president of the College. It was from his legacy and the beauty of the landscape surrounding Wayne, Nebraska that we found our inspiration. Creating a space fostering personal interaction was a key component to the various seating opportunities that grow out of the plaza. We felt this playful solution would be a catalyst for gathering, performing and relaxing along a major pedestrian route through the campus.
