Calvary Lutheran
This renovation and expansion project provides the Calvary Lutheran Congregation with a more organized master plan of their current facility while also including the addition of a new lobby and classrooms. To better serve the congregation and improve the definition between the church and the early education center, church offices were moved closer to the entrance and classrooms were re-organized. A new flexible hall addition is created along the north side of the historic structure to provide a more celebrated entrance into the church where the congregation can greet and mingle. The design team was careful to be sensitive to the existing design, proposing barrel vaults to match the soft archways existing throughout the church. This helps to define a new, welcoming entry for the congregation and visitors. Improvements to the mechanical system will be incorporated along with a new elevator and stairway to create a better flow and connection to the downstairs multi- purpose rooms. DA+UD worked closely with the church and school staff to determine phasing for construction that would be minimally disruptive to building operations. Early and repeated cost estimates are also created with the contractor to be sure project budget goals are met.
